Jugendsymposium: Arts for Education! vom 13. bis 15. September 2010

In der Zeit vom 10. bis 15. September 2010 treffen sich 100 Jugendliche aus 33 europäischen Ländern und Israel zum Jugendsymposium "Arts for Education!" in Essen. Seit Beginn des Kulturhauptstadtjahres beschäftigen sie sich damit, welche Rolle kulturelle Bildung in ihrem Leben spielt. Im Rahmen des gleichnamigen Symposiums vom 13. bis 15. September 2010 in der Philharmonie, Essen, treffen sie auf internationale Experten, um mit ihnen gemeinsam zu diskutieren, wie kulturelle Bildung als Teil schulischer Bildung umgesetzt werden kann.

„Unsere Überzeugung ist, dass allgemeine Bildung, die durch die Künste vermittelt wird, Kinder und Jugendliche in ihrer Persönlichkeitsentwicklung auf besondere Weise fördert. Deswegen setzen wir uns für kulturelle Bildung ein. Durch das Jugendsymposium findet die Stimme der Jugendlichen bei Arts for Education! Gehör. So beteiligen wir die Zielgruppe, die von den Angeboten kultureller Bildung profitieren soll“, so Dr. Bernhard Lorentz, Geschäftsführer der Stiftung Mercator.

Klaus-Dieter Lehmann, Präsident des Goethe-Instituts ist von dem gemeinsam Jugendsymposium begeistert, das über das Goethe-Netz ideal realisiert werden konnte: „Für die jungen Menschen bieten solche Veranstaltungen eine aktive Teilhabe und eigenständige Gestaltung. Das Selbstverständnis Europas wird weniger durch Prinzipien als durch praktisches Handeln entwickelt und hier wiederum auf Feldern der Kultur und der Bildung.“

Am Dienstag, 14.09.2010, steht ab 09.15 Uhr bei Arts for Education! die Perspektive der Jugendlichen im Mittelpunkt. Gemeinsam mit den Teilnehmern des Jugendsymposiums diskutieren im Plenum Sylvia Löhrmann, Ministerin für Schule und Weiterbildung in Nordrhein-Westfalen, Prof. Dr. Birgit Mandel, Leiterin des Instituts für Kulturpolitik an der Universität Heidelberg, Doris Pack, Vorsitzende des Ausschusses für Kultur, Jugend, Bildung, Medien und Sport im Europäischen Parlament, Hortensia Völckers, Vorstand und Künstlerische Direktorin der Kulturstiftung des Bundes, und Dr. Nike Wagner, Leiterin des Kunstfestes Weimar. Im Rahmen einer Ausstellung in der Philharmonie präsentieren die Essener Jugendlichen zusätzlich in der „Bude“ ihre Ruhrgebietskultur in kiosküblicher Verpackung – auf Postkarten, in Zeitungen oder süßen Tüten mit Projektideen gefüllt.

Je zwei Jugendliche aus 34 Ländern zwischen 16 und 20 Jahre sowie 30 Jugendliche aus Essen wurden Anfang des Jahres in einem Bewerbungsverfahren vom Goethe-Institut und der Stiftung Mercator ausgewählt. Auf einer Internetplattform und mittels eines umfangreichen Fragebogens beschäftigten sich die Projektbeteiligten mit Leitfragen zur Rolle von kultureller Bildung in ihrem Leben. Die Jugendlichen aus Essen übernehmen in diesen Tagen zusätzlich eine Gastgeberrolle und haben in fünf Gruppen einen zentralen Programmpunkt, die »Ruhrtouren zu Kulturorten«, vorbereitet. Gemeinsam mit den internationalen Gästen geht es am Wochenende zu Kulturorten, die den Essener Jugendlichen wichtig sind – zur Villa Hügel in Essen, zur Veltinsarena in Gelsenkirchen oder zum Museum für Lichtkunst in Unna.

Die Ergebnisse des Jugendsymposiums werden zudem vom 17. September bis 28. November 2010 im Rahmen der Jugendkulturausstellung „inter-cool 3.0“ im Dortmunder „U“ einer breiten Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt.
