Das Deutsche Zentrum Kulturgutverluste lädt in Kooperation mit CARMAH (Centre for Anthropological Research on Museums and Heritage) zur Veranstaltungsreihe „Kolloquium Provenienzforschung“ ein.

Am Montag, 11. September 2023, 18 Uhr, hält Pascale Bernheim einen Vortrag unter dem Titel "A new field of investigation: The spoliation orchestrated by the “Third Reich“ of musical instruments, scores and manuscripts (1939-1945)".

In view of the immeasurable loss of human life and the savagery of the Holocaust, the question of looted musical instruments might seem a minor one. But music is omnipresent in Jewish culture and transmitted from generation to generation. The violin - a true companion of exile - is a symbol of this. The work of Marc Chagall immediately springs to mind.

When the last Holocaust survivor has disappeared, when the memory of his or her grandchildren has faded, only culture, writing, music and cultural goods will remain. This is why “Musique et Spoliations” has been set up to retrace and to tell instrument histories, however chaotic these may be.

Quintessentially international, our association has ceaselessly opened up new fields of investigation. We are currently supporting research projects in France, in Germany and in Poland.

This is the only organisation solely focused on the recovery of musical instruments.

Pascale Bernheim works mainly in the cultural sector. Starting out as an artistic agent specialising in classical music, then in charge of distribution for an instrumental and vocal ensemble, she has broadened her field of activity to include production and communication. She has held positions at the Musée du Louvre, Radio France/France Musique, foundations, lyric theatres, music festivals, orchestras, choreographic companies, record labels and cultural centres, museums... and gastronomic events. In 2016, she decided to devote herself exclusively to the search for looted musical assets, and in 2017 set up the "Musique et Spoliations" association.

Die Veranstaltung findet als Videokonferenz über Webex statt. Die Teilnahme ist kostenfrei, jedoch nur nach Anmeldung bis 8. September 2023 möglich. Die Teilnehmer:innen erhalten am Tag der Veranstaltung die Zugangsdaten.
